Fit + design options
The Roving Romper is designed as a fitted garment for knit fabrics with good stretch and recovery.
Choose between:
- Spaghetti straps
- Wide straps
- Shorts length
- Full length
- Low scoop back
- Mid scoop back
- Higher scoop back
Your fabric choice will affect the finished fit, so pay close attention to both stretch percentage and recovery when choosing your knit.

The Roving Romper is a great project if you’re comfortable working with stretch fabrics and want to build confidence sewing a close-fitting knit garment.
Construction can be completed using a standard sewing machine, an overlocker/serger, or a combination of both.
Suggested fabrics
Choose a knit fabric with approximately 50–75% stretch and good recovery.
Suitable options include:
- Cotton jersey blends
- Jersey
- Spandex blends
- Lycra blends
- Other stretch knits with good recovery
Good recovery is especially important for maintaining the close fit and support of the garment.
Support + finishing
The bodice is fully lined with a facing, creating a clean and comfortable finish.
If you’d like additional bust support, the construction also lends itself to adding a shelf bra. Testers have reported good support even without additional under-bust elastic.
For the best fit and security around the neckline and armscyes, 6 mm elastic is strongly recommended.
